Speech Therapist/Speech Language Pathologist
This is a 190 day position. Pay Schedule: Teacher Salary This position is for the 2026 - 2027 school year.

Under general supervision, serves as the communication specialist who diagnoses and treats students with speech-language disorders that interfere with academic and functional skills which prevent the student's ability to derive full benefit from the District's educational program. Reports to the Executive Director of Special Services.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assists and guides classroom teachers and parents in observing, describing and referring children with suspected speech-language disorders. Provides appropriate diagnostic services and placement for students with speech-language disorders. Collaborates with school personnel, including teachers and psychologists, to best meet the needs of all students.
Coordinates a speech-language therapy program that is an integral part of the school curriculum and helps students with speech-language disorders to progress in the general curriculum. Provides feedback and reinforcement to students as appropriate.
Plans evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students. Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out services as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
Observes students in educational environments; selects appropriate assessments based on individual student needs. Performs hearing screenings in a timely manner. Makes recommendations and referrals for audiological or medical and related services.
Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech services.
Correctly follows all federal, state, and local due process procedures regarding identification, placement, and treatment of students with speech-language disorders.
Holds IEP conferences according to due process guidelines to determine appropriate placement, yearly IEP goals, re-evaluations, and the discontinuation of therapy. Meets with related school personnel to coordinate specific objectives for individualized educational programs; schedules and provides appropriate speech- language services as outlined in the IEP.
Modifies therapeutic instructional approaches and other functions from data gathered during therapy; provides activities commensurate with the interests and aptitudes of students. Uses a variety of equipment, materials, devices, and aides in the delivery of therapeutic services.
Keeps an updated schedule of each student's therapy. Maintains accurate records of therapy logs and student progress, and reports that progress to parents according to due process guidelines. Adjusts intervention strategies based upon student performance.
Completes records for third party reimbursement accurately and in a timely fashion. Correctly completes and submits all forms as required under Medicaid and District guidelines.
Serves as a communication consultant for classroom teachers and parents; provides information, support and counseling to parents and families of students with speech-language disorders as appropriate.
Keeps data for program planning and decision making for students; submits reports which meet local and state requirements. Safeguards the confidentiality of student records.
Attends conferences/inservices to remain current on speech-language issues, evidence based practice and federal and state due process guidelines.
Willingly performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Training And Experience
Education and experience as required by state certification authorities.
Job Requirements
Knowledge
Advanced knowledge of speech therapy services including prevention, assessment and intervention.
Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations and compliance requirements applicable to speech therapy/speech language pathology. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Basic legal knowledge pertaining to the education of disabled students. Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to speech therapy/speech language pathology. Knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of the equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Working knowledge of clerical functions such as typing, filing and sorting. Knowledge of the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of student and family information.
Skills/Effort
Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply state and federal regulations related to speech therapy/speech language pathology. Ability to effectively apply knowledge of speech therapy services including prevention, assessment, and intervention. Advanced human relations, communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, district staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job. Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and practice, and/or make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines. Ability to complete, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and confidential information. Ability to develop appropriate IEPs based on the strengths and needs of students; ability to complete procedural documentation appropriately. Ability to operate general office equipment including computers, printers, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. in the performance of daily activities.
Additional Physical, Cognitive, And Other Requirements
Duties involve work in school environment that includes standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and sedentary duties. Must be able to talk, read and hear, and effectively perceive and exchange information in a variety of oral, written and/or printed formats. Requires the ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems, collecting information, and drawing valid conclusions.
Duties require the ability to effectively teach and counsel students, volunteers, instructional aides, parents, community members and others in providing speech therapy services. Must prepare reports, recommendations, correspondence, etc. in correct form including proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Duties require successful adaption to stressors, interpersonal conflicts, tight deadlines, etc. Must be able to record and exchange data and follow or deliver detailed verbal or written instructions. Must be able to effectively operate equipment and technologies used in the diagnosis/treatment of speech and oral motor disorders. Must be able to read, interpret, and apply school/district policies and procedures, and review speech therapy texts, professional journals, etc. Must possess the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, determine decimals and percents, and apply statistical analysis. Must be able to compare and analyze information in numeric or symbolic form, and appropriately process color, depth and spatial relationships. Must have sufficient hand, eye and foot coordination to use or operate designated equipment, items, and supplies. Duties of the job require routine keyboard operations and the frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Duties may involve the pushing, pulling and/or lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds and the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
Working Conditions
School environment with little significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring the movement/lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
Responsibility
Supervises students during speech therapy sessions.
Supervises any assigned instructional aides and volunteers.
