Construction Engineer

Construction Engineer – Berryville, VA Employment Type: Full Time, Salaried Pay Range: 60K – 75K per year (based on experience) Location: Berryville, VA Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred; emphasis on heavy structural, civil roadway, and geotechnical foundations. Zero to three (0–4) years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including testing, inspection, scheduling, quantity reporting, material purchasing, construction specifications, working knowledge of construction equipment and drawings, and coordinating subcontractors. Preferred experience with geotechnical engineering and foundations. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, Viewpoint, OnBase, and CAD. Valid driver’s license. Ability to communicate in English both written and verbally. Responsibilities Develop and maintain detailed work plans and 3‑week crew schedules; monitor progress and provide updates to the Project Manager. Provide CPM schedule updates and assist the Project Manager in coordinating work with owners’ design engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies. Confirm receipt of materials and services; review timecards for accuracy in Heavy Job and OnBase; ensure correct cost coding. Order materials and tools required for specific crews. Assist with administrative tasks, review and approve shop drawings, draft RFIs, maintain the submittal log, and support the Document Control policy. Provide technical support and interpretation of construction plans to supervisors and subcontractors. Monitor compliance with the Project Site Specific Safety Plan and the Wagman Environmental‑Health and Safety Plan. Monitor field production rates to ensure bid production targets are met. Review, analyze, and resolve field construction problems, plan discrepancies, and plan errors or omissions. Provide daily quantities for contract items and reconcile monthly pay estimates with the Project Manager. Assist with the development and updating of Utility Matrix and final quantities for project close‑out, including as‑built plans. Perform QA/QC testing functions such as pile load tests, soil nail verification, proof tests, tie‑back testing, and lock‑off. Physical Requirements Able to lift up to 30 pounds from the ground to waist level. Able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally during a shift. Able to climb ladders if required. Continuous standing and walking required while outdoors. Able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands. Must work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather during site visits. Acceptable corrected vision and hearing required.
