Assistant Principal

Essential Functions Provides leadership to insure understanding of and compliance with the educational objectives, policies, and procedures of Collierville Schools Assists the principal in the general administration of the school to include managing discipline, attendance, student activities and any other area assigned Assists the principal and faculty in the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum, instruction, and technology, and recommends their suitability for inclusion in the school's educational program Assists in the development of school and system professional development programs that will strengthen the instructional program Assists the principal and faculty in the interpretation of test and other pertinent data and the promotion of activities designed to improve student achievement Assists in general coordination of the special education program and serves as the principal's designee in IEP meetings as required Assists in the performance evaluation of faculty and staff under the direction of the principal Asserts leadership in time of emergency in accordance with established Collierville Schools Board policy and procedures Improves professional skills and knowledge; assumes educational leadership roles; and performs duties in a professional, honest, and responsible manner Adheres to administrative regulations and directives Assists with developing school discipline procedures and code of conduct Monitors student discipline and works with appropriate school and district personnel for investigative, resolution and reporting purposes Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions Assists in establishing and implementing emergency procedures within the school Assists in providing professional development programs and required training to appropriate staff Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services Assists in the organization and supervision of the student activity program Serves with parent, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational related activities and objectives Directs supply distribution Uses oral and written communication skills correctly and effectively Facilitates school participation in technology programs and activities Demonstrates and models on a regular basis the integration of technology Follows a plan for professional technology development and actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally Provides supervision and support for school related activities before or after school as well as weekends as assigned Exemplary in person attendance required Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may assign Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree Must hold one of the following valid Tennessee Instructional Leadership License at the time of application: ILL-B, ILL-P, PAL A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in a school setting Verifiable experience in one or more of the following leadership roles: Principal, Vice Principal, Assistant Principal, Master Teacher, Facilitator, Instructional Coach, Interventionist or other equivalent leadership position in a school setting Proficient in the use of computer applications to include database, spreadsheet and word processing applications Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate and complete reports including statistics Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels Exemplary attendance is required Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable The Assistant Principal maintains a forty‑hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities of the position. This is an 10.5‑month position. Performance Aptitudes Data Utilization: Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, effective supervision, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate decimals and percentages; apply principles of fractions; and interpret graphs. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems, philosophies, laws, regulations, and procedures; interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs. Ada Compliance Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
