About The PositionPerforms intermediate technical work in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator or Water Treatment Plant Supervisor.Job DutiesPerforms daily inspections of plants for proper operation, troubleshooting and repair; consults with Chief Water Plant Operator or Water Treatment Plan Supervisor, on repair of faulty equipment.Makes regular tours of plants and equipment; assists with and participates in the maintenance, operation and repair of equipment and facilities.Monitors gauges, meters, control panels, etc.; records readings from meters and instruments.Prepares and maintains records on plant operations.Collects and verifies that samples and analyses were completed; assists with laboratory analyses as needed.Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions; cleans and services pumps, motors, and other equipment.Receives and unloads chemical deliveries to the plant; ensures proper storage; fills, cleans and replaces chemical tanks.Performs general building and ground maintenance duties.Provides limited assistance to the Distribution Team, as needed, with prior supervisor approval.Performs other assigned duties.Position QualificationsGeneral knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a water treatment plant.General knowledge of hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical principles pertinent to water treatment plant operations.General knowledge of occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions.Skill in the use and care of hand tools.Ability to detect flaws in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial measures.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain records of shift operations.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, and the public.Education, Experience and Supplemental InformationHigh school diploma or equivalent.One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.C-Well Certification within one year of hire.Valid driver's license.Equal Opportunity StatementDare County provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.Background Check StatementPosition may require a background check that may include: criminal, credit, motor vehicle, education, and sexual offender registry or based on job requirements.
