Why does the job exist?

The Behavioral Health Data Manager will:

• Manage data and information related to Medicaid claims and encounter reporting, as well as non-Medicaid reporting including block grant funds associated with SAMHSA block grant funds;
• Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness, while also ensuring that the data is used effectively to support decision-making, program planning, and reporting.

How does it get done?

The Behavioral Health Data Manager is responsible for:

• Working closely with the Division's program staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure that all required data is collected, processed, and reported in a timely and accurate manner;
• Developing complex reports based on State and Federal requirements;
• Working with complex data sets to identify trends and performance;
• Developing reports based on data components from multiple sources and programs;
• Developing and implementing data quality control measures;
• Overseeing data validation and verification processes;
• Working with external stakeholders to ensure that data is collected and reported in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.

Who are the customers?

• New Mexico Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) program staff;
• Other state agencies, and external stakeholders such as Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCO) and other healthcare providers.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:

• Strong background in data management and analysis, including experience with Medicaid claims and encounter reporting;
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including program staff, vendors, and external partners;
• A solid understanding of applicable federal and state regulations related to data management and reporting;
• Experience with SAMHSA block grant funds is highly desirable;
• Experience understanding and writing complex SQL queries.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of experience as it relates to the essential duties of this classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.


Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.


Must obtain a Defensive driving certification.


Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting.
