Educational Interpreter - Suffolk, Virginia

Key Qualifications: Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III or higher Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of at least 3.5, plus a passing score on the EIPA written test Acceptable alternative qualifications as recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) Proven experience providing sign language interpretation services in educational settings is strongly preferred Ability to clearly facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students, teachers, and staff Professional demeanor and commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment Primary Responsibilities: Provide accurate, effective sign language interpretation for students during classroom lessons, activities, assemblies, and meetings Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure students educational needs are met Adapt interpreting style to best support students' learning and engagement Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all assignments Attend and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when required Maintain consistent attendance and communication with team members Enhance students' educational experiences as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter within a supportive school environment. This contract role is designed for professionals dedicated to fostering communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The position, located near Suffolk, VA, runs full-time (37.5 hours per week) from the beginning of the 26/27 school year through the end of the school year.
