Certified Peer Support Specialist / CPSS

Job Responsibilities Provide essential expertise and consultation to the interdisciplinary healthcare team, promoting a culture where each individual’s perspectives and preferences are respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self‑help activities. Serve as an advocate for clients, fostering recovery dialogue and self‑help sessions. Meet with clients to offer advice and support in accordance with their treatment plan. Assist in peer support groups with assigned consumers on a regular basis. Support or assist consumers in daily decision‑making and resolution of minor problems. Assist clients by locating resources, advising on processes, encouraging follow‑through on proposed resolutions, and identifying social activities. Accompany clients to meetings and community group gatherings to advocate for their needs and lead recovery dialogues. Encourage clients’ participation in community activities to develop healthy relationships. Observe behavior and evidence of general well‑being, discussing observations with clients. Model effective coping and self‑help techniques for individuals or groups. Provide advice on empowerment skills and successful community living. Inform clients about community resources and how to use them, and offer information to consumers and families on specific topics as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. One year of experience working with persons who have intellectual, developmental disabilities, or mental health and/or substance use challenges. Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or one continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health/substance abuse treatment or diagnosis) and eligibility for certification by the governing agency. Complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the service definition, including crisis response, within the first ninety (90) days of employment. Valid driver’s license and automotive insurance. Ability to pass a background check and drug screen. CPR, first aid, NCI, and/or role‑related certification is a plus.
