Veterinary Extern - General Practice

National Veterinary Associates

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Every NVA hospital shares a supportive environment dedicated to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. At the Chatham‑Kent Veterinary Hospital Group (CK Vets), students find a warm, welcoming environment focused on high‑quality pet care. Our veterinarians, technicians and animal‑care specialists are passionate about preventive care and the latest medical advancements. Students will work alongside experienced professionals in diverse cases and advanced procedures, including dentistry, ultrasound and surgery. The group’s community‑focused approach promotes strong relationships with pet owners, making them active partners in health decisions. Practices Chatham‑Kent Veterinary Hospital (Chatham, Ontario) Blenheim Veterinary Hospital (Blenheim, Ontario) South Ridge Veterinary Clinic (Ridgetown, Ontario) Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations and create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services and observe/assist or perform surgical procedures. Manage patient medical care while practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff and clients. Duration Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Eligibility 4th‑year and clinic‑year veterinary students are encouraged to apply. Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
