Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work alongside experienced professionals in diverse cases and advanced procedures, including dentistry, ultrasound and surgery. Practices Chatham‑Kent Veterinary Hospital (Chatham, Ontario) Blenheim Veterinary Hospital (Blenheim, Ontario) South Ridge Veterinary Clinic (Ridgetown, Ontario) Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations and create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services and observe/assist or perform surgical procedures. Manage patient medical care while practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff and clients. Duration Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Eligibility 4th‑year and clinic‑year veterinary students are encouraged to apply. Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
