Environmental Engineering Technician 1

Duties Description The incumbent will assist with the analysis and presentation of data from the Statewide Community Air Monitoring (CAM) Initiative. Specific duties will include assisting in reviewing community emission reduction strategies including developing maps to show community priority locations for improving air quality and reducing heat vulnerability with green infrastructure; working with the Research Scientists in the Environmental Justice Siting Law (EJSL) Compliance Section to research environmental justice frameworks and cumulative burden assessment methods; helping to identify high air pollution burden areas and sources near sensitive populations in disadvantaged communities (DACs); and working with Research Scientists in the Air Toxics Section to review air toxic contaminant emissions and air quality modeling analyses submitted as part of the permitting process and for use in determining EJSL compliance.

Essential Functions:

Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to operate a computer. Knowledge of required technical computer programs. Ability to travel to meetings and outside conferences as required. Ability to deal effectively with the public, government and other outside entities.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;

OR

graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;

OR

graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;

OR

18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with R or Python programming. Experience with ArcGIS mapping tools. Experience developing plain language, well-written material to promote community engagement and environmental health and environmental justice literacy. Undergraduate degree or relevant course work in public health, toxicology, epidemiology, biology, or physical sciences (meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, environmental studies, chemistry, or physics).

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
