The St. Cloud VA Health Care System is seeking an Assistant Medical Director of Specialty Clinics in St. Cloud, MN. The role is a department‑level management position that provides mentorship and leads competent, satisfied staff dedicated to providing high‑quality, patient‑centered care through administrative leadership. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
- United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy)
- Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
- Degree must be obtained from a VA approved school for the year of completion
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or district of Columbia
- Residency training: physicians must have completed a residency program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Approved residencies include those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) for the year of completion
- Or one year of post‑medical‑school training (first year of residency or transitional year) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice under a full and unrestricted license in the United States
- Or non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States performing duties related to the position
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis; they are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged
- PRPs are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
- In rare circumstances, the Facility Director may submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for physicians whose composite record warrants such action
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred experience: board certified/board eligible, prior leadership/supervisory experience
- Physical requirements: candidates will be asked to participate in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre‑employment process
Duties
- The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers, empowering and equipping veterans to take charge of their health and well‑being
- Operate in a model with three core elements—personalized health plan, healing relationships and environments, and connection to the veteran's community
- Align with the Veterans Health Administration Mission Statement to honor America’s veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well‑being
- Directly manage and oversee clinical and administrative operations within the Primary and Specialty Medicine (PSM) service line
- Supervise physicians and mid‑level providers at the Health Care System and affiliated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), coordinate work schedules, and be responsible for clinical performance measures
- Work closely with other leaders within the service line and facility to optimize resources in the care delivery model
- Participate in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings, or committees as necessary or assigned

- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) may be authorized (up to $200,000 over 1‑5 years).
