Genuine care for people cannot. The Role Great rituals are created by people who know how to read a room, care for others, and make every guest feel welcome. As an Experience Guide, you will help shape the rhythm of the bathhouse through guided rituals, thoughtful hospitality, and genuine human connection. You will lead aufguss ceremonies, welcome first‑time guests, guide people through contrast therapy, and create moments they remember long after they leave. This is more than leading a class. It requires presence, awareness, physical stamina, and the ability to adapt in real time. Some guests want encouragement. Others want quiet. You will learn how to meet people where they are while creating experiences that feel inclusive, engaging, and grounded. This is also a physically demanding role. You will spend hours moving between hot saunas, cold plunge areas, and the bathhouse floor. You will lead ceremonies, prepare and reset spaces, monitor guest safety, carry supplies, and support the flow of the bathhouse throughout your shift. As a part-time independent contractor, you will join a group of guides who bring different backgrounds, personalities, and strengths while sharing the same commitment to hospitality, safety, and continuous learning. Experience Guides work closely with Grotto leadership and the full front‑of‑house team. What You’ll Do Lead Memorable Rituals Lead aufguss ceremonies that are welcoming, engaging, and accessible. Guide guests through heat, scent, breath, music, and rhythm with confidence and care. Use towel techniques to circulate heat and create a thoughtful, well‑paced experience. Select and prepare essential oils, music, and other session elements according to Grotto standards. Read the energy of the room and adapt your pacing, language, and approach in real time. Invite participation without pressure and create space for guests to engage at their own comfort level. Continue developing your craft through training, practice, observation, and feedback. Guide Every Guest Welcome guests throughout the bathhouse with warmth and genuine presence. Help first‑time visitors understand how to move through heat, cold, and rest safely. Answer questions about thermal bathing, contrast practices, and the Grotto experience. Recognize returning members and build genuine relationships over time. Notice when a guest needs support, space, encouragement, or a quieter experience. Help guests understand membership through natural conversation and warm introductions when appropriate. Respond calmly and professionally to guest concerns, discomfort, or signs of distress. Support Guest Safety Monitor guests for signs of overheating, dizziness, discomfort, or unsafe behavior. Explain safe use of saunas, steam rooms, cold plunges, and thermal spaces. Maintain awareness of capacity, guest flow, and conditions throughout the bathhouse. Follow Grotto's safety, emergency response, and incident reporting procedures. Communicate concerns quickly and clearly to leadership and the appropriate team members. Maintain current CPR and AED certification. Care for the Environment Prepare thermal spaces before each session. Set up and organize towels, water, ice, essential oils, music, and ceremony materials. Reset and clean spaces between sessions. Help keep the thermal floor orderly, stocked, and ready throughout your shift. Monitor lighting, music, scent, temperature, and other atmospheric details. Report equipment, maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns immediately. Work closely with Housekeeping to address real‑time needs before they affect the guest experience. Support the Team Work closely with Community Hosts, Housekeeping, Cafe Crew, and Leadership. Participate in team huddles, training sessions, and collaborative practice. Communicate proactively about guest needs, facility conditions, and session flow. Support member events, special programming, and private experiences as scheduled. Contribute ideas that strengthen Grotto's rituals, programming, and guest experience. Step in where needed while remaining focused on the safety and quality of the thermal experience. Qualifications Required 1 to 3 years of experience in hospitality, movement, facilitation, fitness, performing arts, or another guest‑facing role. Strong hospitality and communication skills. Comfortable speaking to and guiding groups. Ability to create a calm, welcoming, and engaging environment. Ability to read a room and adapt to different guests and group dynamics. Physical ability to stand, move, lift up to 50 pounds, and lead multiple sessions during a shift. Ability to work safely in high-heat, humid, and cold environments. CPR and AED certification, or willingness to obtain before your first shift. Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and select holidays. English proficiency required. Spanish is strongly preferred. Physical ability to perform in sauna temperatures (ranging from 175 - 185 degrees). Nice to Have Experience with sauna culture, thermal bathing, or aufguss. Training or certification in breathwork facilitation. Experience coaching cold immersion or contrast therapy practices. Background in yoga, Pilates, fitness, dance, martial arts, or movement education. Experience facilitating workshops, classes, ceremonies, performances, or other group experiences. Hospitality or luxury guest experience background. Knowledge of aromatherapy, essential oils, music curation, or sensory design. Interest in physiology, nervous system regulation, or human performance. What You’ll Learn at Grotto Every Experience Guide completes Grotto’s training program before leading guest experiences independently. Training includes: The science of heat, cold, and contrast bathing. Grotto's approach to hospitality and guest care. Aufguss techniques, including towel work, scent layering, music, timing, and room flow. Breathwork fundamentals and guided thermal experiences. Guest safety, emergency response, and thermal operations. How to monitor guests for signs of discomfort or distress. How to read a room, adapt in real time, and create experiences that feel natural and welcoming. Grotto's values, service standards, and approach to shared rituals. Learning continues beyond initial training. Experience Guides are expected to refine their craft through practice, observation, peer feedback, and ongoing development. Contractor Details This is a part‑time, independent contractor role. Experience Guides are engaged on a 1099 basis. Scheduling is based on Grotto's programming needs and the contractor’s agreed availability. Contractors are responsible for maintaining any required certifications and complying with the terms of their independent contractor agreement. What We Offer Competitive contractor compensation.
