Lab Technician 1
Location: Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
Pay Rate: $25–$28/hr on W2
Work Schedule: Mon–Fri, 9:00 PM–5:30 AM
Training Schedule: 3:00 PM–11:30 PM for the first two weeks

Job Summary

The Lab Technician 1 will perform routine laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions. Responsibilities include preparing biological specimens, operating diagnostic laboratory equipment, maintaining accurate records, and following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare biological specimens for testing in hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation.
• Operate automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment to test blood, serum, urine, feces, and other samples.
• Set up and perform laboratory tests, review results, and release findings according to SOPs.
• Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on laboratory analyzers.
• Troubleshoot basic issues with at least one major department analyzer.
• Review daily Quality Control (QC) reports and weekly Levey-Jennings charts.
• Handle, store, and dispose of biological specimens and biohazardous waste according to safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain accurate laboratory, maintenance, environmental, cleaning, medical, and courier records.
• Prepare specimens for shipment to external testing facilities in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
• Receive, store, and log laboratory and office supplies.
• Operate and maintain centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, slide stainers, and other laboratory equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and complete all required SOPs and training modules.

Education and Experience

• MT/MLT (Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician), CVT/RVT (Certified/Registered Veterinary Technician), or a relevant two-year or four-year degree.
• MT/MLT: 0–5+ years of laboratory experience.
• CVT/RVT: 1–5+ years of laboratory experience.
• Two-year or four-year degree: 1–5+ years of laboratory experience.

Required Skills

• Biological specimen preparation and handling.
• Laboratory testing and diagnostic equipment operation.
• Analyzer maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Quality control procedures and accurate documentation.
• Knowledge of SOPs, laboratory safety, and biohazard disposal.
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment.
