All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, demonstrating a strong understanding of tasks and responsibilities and a commitment to the best interests of students. Position Title: Special Education Adaptive Curriculum Salary Schedule: State Based Plus Local Supplement Department: Exceptional Students Education Program/School Job Code: 110500 Reports To: Principal and Coordinator of ESEP Work Schedule: 188 days/8 hr. Grade/Level: N/A FLSA: Exempt Primary Function: Ability to provide instruction, assess and encourage student progress. Manage the learning environment, complying with state and district regulations. Working Conditions (Physical Demands): Classroom Environment, dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to read materials, sitting for extended periods, bending, kneeling, or crouching to file materials, lifting a student up to 40 pounds, performing specialized health care procedures. Qualifications A valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in the assigned teaching field, as required by the Professional Standards Commission. Special Education Adaptive Curriculum (P-12) Special Education Cognitive areas (P-5) in Math, Science, English, Reading, and Social Studies (preferred) Must possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate, and credentials as required for the position. Note: The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements. Essential Functions Complete designated follow-up procedures for students referred for special education services. Develop, implement, monitor, and annually review the Individual Education Program (I.E.P.) of each eligible student on the caseload. Work with parents in all aspects of their child's educational program. Supervise paraprofessionals in resource, self-contained, and/or regular class settings. Compile, maintain, and submit all required reports in a timely manner. Provide educational services according to program guidelines and delivery model. Assure due process procedural safeguards for students and parents. Use special methodology for instruction, according to population needs. Implement assistive technology as indicated by IEP. Effectively utilize available technology in IEP development. Use behavior management strategies, as indicated. Administer ongoing evaluations of student progress toward mastery of goals and report progress to parents. Serve as a resource to regular education teachers for mainstreamed exceptional students. Perform special duties required to meet unique needs of specific populations, including lifting physically handicapped students. Maintain valid license and credentials. Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements. Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency. Review current developments, literature, and technical sources related to responsibilities. Ensure confidentiality of student information. Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
