Maintenance Manager

LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a growing organization, and they are seeking a motivated Maintenance Manager - Heavy Mobile Equipment to join their team. You will lead a skilled maintenance team supporting a fleet of heavy mobile equipment. This is an outstanding opportunity for a proven maintenance professional to play a key leadership role in a high-volume industrial operation while driving equipment reliability, workforce development, and maintenance best practices. The Maintenance Manager will oversee all aspects of equipment maintenance, repair planning, reliability initiatives, workforce leadership, and maintenance strategy for a large fleet of heavy mobile assets. The successful candidate will lead a unionized maintenance team, implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and partner closely with operations to maximize uptime, safety, and productivity. Key Responsibilities: Maintenance & Equipment Reliability: Lead all maintenance activities for a diverse fleet of heavy mobile equipment. Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. Drive equipment reliability initiatives to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency. Oversee troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel-powered systems. Manage major rebuilds, capital repairs, and vendor-supported maintenance projects. Ensure accurate maintenance documentation, asset histories, and compliance records are maintained within the CMMS. Leadership & Workforce Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a unionized team of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and support personnel. Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards. Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to support operational requirements. Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and employee development. Partner effectively with labor representatives while maintaining positive employee relations. Operational Partnership: Collaborate with operations leadership to align maintenance priorities with production objectives. Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and urgent maintenance needs. Evaluate equipment performance and recommend reliability improvements, upgrades, or replacement strategies. Drive cross-functional communication to support operational excellence. Safety & Compliance: Champion a world-class safety culture across all maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Conduct regular inspections, audits, and safety reviews. Promote proper lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient maintenance environment. Inventory & Cost Management: Manage maintenance budgets, parts inventories, and vendor relationships. Monitor maintenance KPIs including downtime, PM compliance, labor utilization, and equipment reliability metrics. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while controlling maintenance costs. Qualifications and Skills: Technical Degree, Associate Degree, or Advanced Trade Certification. Proven maintenance leadership experience in an industrial environment. Strong background maintaining heavy mobile equipment, including equipment such as: Earthmoving equipment, Material handling equipment, Cranes, Bulldozers, Excavators, Loaders, Haul trucks, or Other large mobile industrial assets. Experience leading maintenance personnel in a union environment. Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Strong understanding of hydraulic, diesel, electrical, mechanical, and mobile equipment systems. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, improve reliability, and drive operational performance. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to support off-shift emergencies and critical equipment issues when required. Experience within the steel, metals, mining, aggregate, recycling, or other heavy industrial sectors. Background implementing reliability-centered maintenance, predictive maintenance, or continuous improvement initiatives. Experience managing maintenance metrics, budgeting, and capital equipment planning. Compensation Range: $95,000 - $110,000 + 7% Bonus Benefits Offered: 3 weeks of vacation, paid sick leave where applicable by state law, Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance Vision Insurance, 401K, and Life Insurance.
