JOB DESCRIPTION

THE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (BCBA/LBA) SERVES AS THE PRIMARY BEHAVIORAL AUTHORITY WITHIN A SPECIALIZED RESIDENTIAL SETTING SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS WITH NEURODIVERSE CONDITIONS, AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD), INTELLECTUAL/DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (I/DD), AND MENTAL ILLNESS (MI). THIS ROLE DOES NOT PROVIDE DIRECT ABA THERAPY SERVICES BUT INSTEAD APPLIES BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS PRINCIPLES AT A SYSTEMS LEVEL TO IMPROVE RESIDENT OUTCOMES, ENSURE REGULATORY COMPLIANCE, AND SUPPORT STAFF COMPETENCY.

THE CORE FUNCTION OF THIS ROLE IS THE CONTINUOUS CYCLE OF OBSERVATION, INTERVENTION, EVALUATION, AND DOCUMENTATION, ENSURING ALL BEHAVIORAL SERVICES ARE DATA-DRIVEN, MEASURABLE, CLINICALLY JUSTIFIED AND COMPLIANT WITH MI MENTAL HEALTH CODES, MICHIGAN MEDICAL PROVIDER MANUAL, AND CMH CONTRACTUAL GUIDELINES.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Behavioral Assessment, Planning, and Compliance

· Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) with clear identification of antecedents, behaviors, and consequences.

· Develop, implement, and maintain Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Behavior Treatment Plans (BTP) (restrictive and non-restrictive)

· Ensure all plans are current, clinically appropriate, and updated based on ongoing data and observation

· Prepare and present cases to the Behavior Treatment Plan Review Committee (BTPRC)

· Ensure timely submission, revision, and renewal of all behavioral documentation.

Data-Driven Observation, Analysis, and Outcomes

· Maintain a strong presence in the residential environment to directly observe resident behavior and staff interventions.

· Establish and monitor data collection systems that measure frequency, duration, and intensity of behaviors, Staff intervention effectiveness, and Consumer progress toward goals

· Conduct ongoing analysis of behavioral data to Identify trends and root causes, modify interventions proactively, and Demonstrate measurable outcomes

· Document all findings with a high level of clinical accuracy, timeliness, and defensibility.

Staff Training and Workforce Development (Primary Emphasis)

Design and implement structured training programs on: Understanding behavior and function Crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques Implementation of BIPs and BTPs Use of approved restrictive and non-restrictive interventions Documentation standards and data collection Provide hands-on, in-the-moment coaching within the residential

setting.

· Evaluate staff competency and ensure consistent and accurate implementation of plans, and adherence to approved interventions only

· Develop training materials and maintain training documentation for compliance audits.

Implementation Oversight & Program Integrity

· Work directly with Behavior Technicians and RBTs to ensure fidelity of plan implementation.

· Conduct routine audits of behavioral programming and staff performance.

· Ensure consistency across shifts and departments in behavioral approach.

· Troubleshoot program failures and implement corrective action plans.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Collaborate closely with our facility multi-disciplinary team. Ensure behavioral strategies are integrated consistently across all

environments (residential, clinical, and day programming).

· Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute behavioral expertise to treatment planning.

Resident Support and Clinical Presence

Provide ongoing behavioral support within the residential setting. Assist in crisis situations and post-incident reviews, focusing on

root cause analysis, system improvement, and staff learning opportunities

· Advocate for person-centered, least-restrictive, and trauma-informed approaches.

Documentation & Accountability

· Maintain real-time, accurate, and audit-ready documentation including FBAs, BIPs, and BTPs, treatment updates, staff training records and behavioral data reports

· Ensure all documentation demonstrates clear linkage between assessment, intervention, and outcome

· Meet all internal and external deadlines without exception.

Qualifications

· Master’s Degree (or higher) in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or related field

· Licensure: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) - required

· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in:

o Behavioral programming in residential or inpatient settings – strongly preferred

o ASD, I/DD, and/or mental health populations – required

The salary pay range for this position is $85,000 - $97,000 per year
