Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgery - $31-43 per hour

Job Description & Requirements Detroit Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Neurosurgery Assistant for a nursing job in Hamtramck, Michigan. Specialty: Neurosurgery Discipline: RN Duration: Ongoing 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours Employment Type: Staff $2,500 Sign on Bonus, with required relevant experience As a critical member of the care team, you will provide essential assistance and comfort to patients, ensuring they receive the best possible experience during their healthcare journey. Responsibilities Greets visitors, answers telephones and directs calls and visitors to the appropriate place or person. Registers patients for outpatient services; obtains necessary demographic, insurance and related data. Contacts insurance providers to determine benefit levels and patient co‑pays; posts payments, prepares daily deposits. Pulls and prepares patient charts prior to appointments; files notes, prescriptions, face sheets and other documentation. Assists physician with patient examinations by preparing the exam room, helping to move or position patients for procedures, handling instruments. Takes vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, weight) and documents patient’s reason for visit and vital signs. Performs medical procedures such as non‑intravenous injections, venipuncture, performing EKGs, assisting with stress tests, routine x‑rays, pulmonary function tests. Obtains referrals and schedules patient’s appointments or procedures per guidelines. Enters, reviews, researches and corrects computerized records of patient billing information; provides billing company with payment and rejection data. Prepares laboratory slips or statistical data, types correspondence, trains new personnel. Follows established policies and procedures to meet safety standards (JCAHO/OSHA); participates in safety training including CPR. Skills Required Analytical ability to handle patient problems, review insurance, research billing, compile data. Interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and staff. Capacity to handle mental/visual strain from payment posting and insurance review. Technical knowledge of blood pressure techniques. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Graduation from a School of Practical Nursing or equivalent. Completion of one of the following: PCA/PCT Program Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent Medical Assistant Program or six months of experience in a doctor’s office performing Medical Assistant duties EMT Phlebotomy training program with six months direct patient care experience (preferred) One year of previous experience performing Medical Assistant or Patient Care Associate duties. One year of previous experience performing medical office clerical duties (e.g., insurance verification, authorizations, billing, EMR usage) in a doctor’s office.
