Description The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts at Keuka College seeks an adjunct instructor to teach face‑to‑face courses in English at our lakeside campus. Courses include The English Language and other literature courses. Role Overview The Adjunct Instructor of English at Keuka College reports to the Chair of the Humanities and Fine Arts Division. This role is centered around developing and implementing course instruction, including the creation and grading of assessments. The instructor is tasked with providing students with regular feedback, fostering a conducive learning environment, and actively engaging students in the classroom. Additionally, the instructor contributes to the assessment of student learning outcomes and maintains a commitment to professional integrity, college policies, and student privacy in accordance with FERPA regulations. Regular attendance and availability for student consultations during office hours are also integral to the position. Cover Letter Requirements Your interest in teaching The English Language and/or literature courses that support students within the general education (Compass Curriculum) and Writing and Communication Arts Programs; Your approach to engaging students in a face‑to‑face classroom environment; and Why you would be a strong fit for Keuka College and its on‑campus, residential learning community. Essential Responsibilities Teach courses such as the English language and other literature courses at varying levels from introductory to advanced courses. Courses consist of 3 on‑campus contact hours per week per course section, plus office hours, course preparation, and student assessment. Plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus, goals, and objectives. Design, administer, and grade student work, examinations, and applicable projects to accurately assess achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus. Provide clear documentation of student progress through regular, frequent, and timely feedback. Complete academic warnings and midterm progress reports as necessary. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and actively engage students. Contribute to general education program or program assessment of student learning outcomes based on signature assignments in course. Be accessible to students via email or in person, maintain regular office hours to meet one‑on‑one with students. Work with the Chair and other faculty in the Division of Humanities & Fine Arts to ensure instructional quality and program quality. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution‑wide teamwork. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in English; Doctorate preferred. At least five years of College or University teaching experience. Experience using a variety of teaching strategies and tools. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills Ability to effectively communicate across a wide variety of mediums. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people. Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom. Availability to teach early morning, afternoon, or evening on the Keuka College campus.
