Assistant Controller

Company: Award-Winning Modular Construction Company Location: Perris, CA (Fully Onsite) Pay Rate: $50-60/hour Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm Duration: Temp Indefinite (Potential Temp to Hire) Position Summary Our client is seeking a hands‑on Assistant Controller to support the day‑to‑day accounting operations for its growing manufacturing and construction business. Reporting to the CFO, this role will oversee core accounting functions, financial reporting, job costing, and month‑end close while partnering closely with a lean accounting team. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, thrives in a roll‑up‑your‑sleeves environment, and enjoys balancing strategic financial oversight with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities. Responsibilities & Duties Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and month‑end close. Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules while ensuring GAAP compliance. Support job costing, WIP reporting, inventory accounting, and project profitability analysis across manufacturing and construction operations. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting for leadership. Partner with Operations and project teams to improve financial performance and support business initiatives. Maintain internal controls, assist with audits and tax preparation, and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and system efficiencies. Provide day‑to‑day guidance to a small accounting team consisting of AP and Staff Accounting personnel while remaining actively involved in the day‑to‑day accounting work. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA is a plus. 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a senior accountant, accounting manager, or assistant controller capacity. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, month‑end close, job costing, and cash management. Experience within manufacturing, construction, public sector, or public works project environments is highly preferred. NetSuite and Procore experience are strong pluses. Advanced Excel skills with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Proven ability to thrive in a lean, collaborative environment where balancing strategic responsibilities with hands‑on accounting work is essential.
