The paraprofessional's goal is to assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning classroom environment in which all children can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the teacher of record with instruction and supervision of children in the classroom activities, both in the special education room and in the general education classroom as needed.
- Work with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the special needs and abilities of each child.
- Assist the teacher in preparing materials and activities that support lesson plans.
- Assist the teacher in administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments.
- Assist with daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and recess.
- Model positive behavior.
- Assist with field trips and special activities.
- Monitor children to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
- Participate in staff in-service when directed by building administrator.
- Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
- Willing to provide minor medical support (such as diabetic testing and monitoring) as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
