SUPERVISOR - RESPIRATORY CARE

Respiratory Supervisor/Educator

Education: Graduation from a two year or longer AMA approved therapist school is desirable. Must be licensed as a respiratory therapist in the state of Arkansas.

Experience: Should possess extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine. Must be able to exercise judgment and accept greater responsibility in therapeutic procedures based on patient observation. Must have at least two years of critical care experience and be able to demonstrate knowledge and competence in all aspects of respiratory care procedures.

Physical: Normal hospital environment. Normal/ corrected eyesight. Full range of hearing. Operates computer, IPPB, CPAP, BIPAP and other various respiratory equipment. Lifts and carries up to 30lbs. Pushes and pulls up to 75lbs. Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping. Requires mobility, sight, hearing, verbal communication, changes in temperature, exposure to disagreeable elements (dusts, fumes, odors, water, etc.) exposure to biological, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Job Summary: The Respiratory Supervisor/Educator is a professional therapist directly responsible for respiratory care staff supervision. The supervisor will provide in-service and orientation of new respiratory therapists and coordinate monthly staff education. The supervisor must possess a good working knowledge of all respiratory care procedures and processes. The supervisor will serve as a role model for all staff by demonstrating clinical competency and leadership. He/She must ensure a safe, organized, and efficient working environment in the respiratory care area. The supervisor must promote good public relations for the department and medical center while maintaining patient confidentiality. Must be able to communicate effectively and project a positive professional attitude toward patients, staff, visitors and students. The supervisor/educator must conduct him/herself in a professional manner at all times. The supervisor/educator will assist the department by performing daily charge reconciliation, new employee and student orientation, mask fit testing and other duties as required. Routinely, assigns and responsibly directs staff. This position is required to utilize independent judgment. The respiratory educator may be required to perform staff education and remediation on all three shifts if needed.
