RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS EXAMINATION. If you pass the examination, your name will appear on the continuous eligible list for one year. After one year, your name will be removed from the list. You may apply for retest at six month intervals. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMCC).

Examples Of Duties

A Pharmacist - Erie County Medical Center provides professional pharmaceutical services for drug distribution and control at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation; Fills physician's orders and manufactures preparations by means of standard physical and chemical procedures; prepares and sterilizes injectable medication and other compounds; Identifies drugs brought into the hospital by patients; obtains drug histories and communicates information to physicians; Consults with physicians concerning problems of drug incompatibility, interaction and efficacy; offers alternatives and obtains clarification of all questionable orders; Supervises support personnel in drug preparation and delivery services such as unit dose system, intravenous admixtures program, outpatient dispensing functions, control drug dispensing, and record maintenance; Provides drug information and references to medical staff, nursing staff, and other professionals; Provides education to patients on drug therapy and the importance of adherence to the treatment plan and compliance with medications ; Develops and implements strategies for managing chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, hypertension) through medication therapy management and patient education; Coordinates with interdisciplinary team to ensure patients are discharged with proper medication instructions and follow-up care to prevent readmissions; Supervises the manufacture, preparation, packaging and pre-packaging of all sterile and non-sterile dosage; Inspects nursing units to assure proper storage, use and integrity of floor stock medications. A medical examination may be required before appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before submission of application: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited School of Pharmacy and completion of six (6) months of experience as a pharmacist in a health care system * NOTE 1: *Completion of a six (6) month pharmacy internship in a health care system or an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency, not included in the educational requirement above, may be substituted for the required qualifying experience. NOTE 2: *Completion of six (6) months of work in a healthcare system, drug manufacturing or biopharmaceutical setting performing tasks such as, but not limited to sterile compounding, sterile preparation or supervisory work, not included in the educational requirement above, may be substituted for the required qualifying experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a license to practice as a Pharmacist as issued by the New York State Department of Education at time of Permanent appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

Subjects Of Examination: The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of your professional license. Specify the date that your license was first issued. In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified. A medical examination may be required before appointment.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Candidates may be subject to a thorough background investigation to determine suitability for appointment. Applicants may be required to authorize access to educational, employment, criminal history and other records check as part of such investigation. Criminal convictions or other offense are subject to evaluation and may result in disqualification. Applicant will be required to submit the necessary fees for the fingerprint processing, where required. VETERANS: Disabled and non-disabled veterans as defined in Section 85, New York State Civil Service Law, will have 5 and 2.5 points, respectively, added to their earned scores if successful in the examination. You should claim these credits when you file application but you have an option to waive them any time prior to appointment. If you have already used these credits you may not claim them again. A $15.00 filing fee is required for this exam. If applying online the payment process will be outlined. When submitting by mail or hand delivering, the required fee must accompany your application. Do not send or bring cash, as the County cannot be responsible for cash payment. Plan Details:

• Value Plan (POS 204): This is the default plan for all new employees. These employees are required to contribute 15% of the plan's premium through pre-tax payroll deductions.
• Enhanced Plan (POS 202) & Core Plan (POS 203): Employees opting for these plans must pay the difference in cost between their selected plan and the employer's contribution toward the Value Plan.
• Bronze High Deductible Plan (POS 8200): Available to all employees regardless of hire date, the County covers 100% of the premium for this plan. It features a $2,000 individual / $4,000 family deductible and includes preventive services covered in full.

Health Insurance Waiver

Full-Time employees who waive participation in the County's health insurance plan and are not covered by another County health insurance plan receive, in lieu of the insurance, $500 per month for Family Coverage or $200 per month for Individual Coverage.

Dental Insurance:

Full-time employees represented by CSEA in Erie County receive dental coverage through the CSEA Employee Benefit Fund (EBF). The County contributes $22.13 per bi-weekly pay period for single coverage and $72.69 for family coverage.
