Patient Care Tech - Emergency Department

Job Title Patient Care Technician Department Emergency Department Location Newark Wayne Hospital, Newark, 14513 Hours Per Week 36 Schedule Rotating Days, Evenings, Nights, every other weekend and holiday. Summary Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans as determined/delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. Assists with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of the patient care unit, being flexible to meet patient and/or unit needs. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to facilitate unit functioning. Participate as a member of the care delivery team. Provide safe and competent care for patients, addressing nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens. Take patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, compassion, and provide any additional support needed for the patient and family members. Demonstrate exceptional communication with the care delivery team, modeling teamwork for other team members. Assist with ambulation, feeding, transferring or lifting of patients. Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients. Perform clerical duties, including transcription and maintenance of patient charts. Assist patients with mobility, such as sitting, standing, and walking. (Cath lab only) Stock rooms and may handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the OR field. Required Qualifications Minimum age requirement: 18. Preferred Qualifications Completion of one of the following: Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, experience as a medical assistant/technician in a health‑related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program. Associate’s degree. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Education, Licenses / Certifications None specified beyond preferred qualifications. Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
