Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The advanced nurse practitioner will provide medical services in a primary care clinic in collaboration with family medicine or internal medicine physicians. The nurse practitioner will provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, and prescribe medication for children and adults. The nurse practitioner will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care, frequently advising patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or providing case management.

Essential duties include conducting thorough medical histories, performing complete physical examinations, initiating appropriate lab, radiology tests or other specialized tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizing lab data on new and former clinic patients to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan. The nurse practitioner will provide primary care services on the days and at times established and scheduled by Genesis Healthcare System. They must be able to work with collaborating physicians when applicable, perform routine outpatient procedures, prescribe and monitor medications, ensure continuity of care, participate in quality monitoring, maintain competence in their area of specialty, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a graduate of an accredited APRN training program, current Ohio RN and APRN licensure, a current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe by the Ohio Board of Nursing, family medicine or internal medicine experience preferred, and required certifications such as BLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire. ACLS or PALS may be required based upon practice setting.

Working conditions/physical requirements include routine potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, working on a patient unit or outpatient care setting, ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend, and squat, ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, ability to walk for extended periods of time, and close up and peripheral vision abilities.
