Phlebotomist

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team. This position will support the Georgetown location with occasional coverage for the Round Rock North and Harker Heights locations. This is a full‑time Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5:00 pm position with no weekends, calls, or major holidays. The role can be a level 2 or senior level based on candidate experience. What Does the Phlebotomist Do? Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist collects and processes patient specimens, follows quality assurance and safety policies, assists with patient flow, properly identifies patients, draws blood samples, sends specimens to the laboratory for analysis, maintains collection areas and equipment, and performs record‑keeping duties. Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assures pre‑authorizations and completes appropriate consent (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests. Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures all supplies are viable before use. Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in‑house. Processes incoming orders for lab testing. Processes in‑house and incoming reports.Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion and processes properly labeled specimens according to local blood bank policy. Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed. Uses equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently; maintains equipment and work area as directed. Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel and records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents for waived lab tests. Complies with regulatory agency standards, adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and universal precaution procedures. Properly disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff. Qualifications Level 2 High school diploma or equivalent required. Three years of experience required. Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended. Current state licensure if applicable. Level Senior (in addition to level 1 and 2 requirements) Five or more years of experience required. Physical Demands Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and ability to sit, stand, and handle items up to 40 lb. Requires corrected vision, color perception, hearing to normal range, and legible handwriting. Reasonable accommodations will be offered. Work Environment Regular exposure to direct contact with patients, blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, and transmittable infections.
