Licensed Practical Nurse Detox

Job Summary:The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides standard nursing care to include patients withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs in a 16-bed inpatient detoxification facility.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Upon admission of patients obtains medical history, performs physical assessments, completes all clinical forms on each patientInitiate care plan and note if goals are met as needed or upon dischargePerforms patient treatment as ordered by the PhysicianImplements and follows activities required to carry out doctor’s ordersNotify the Physician for orders when a patient is admitted and when patient exhibits symptoms of a condition not covered on the ordersReviews patient screening form to determine if patient is eligible for admissionConsults with Sobering staff regarding patient’s medical concernsAdministers medications in accordance with doctor’s orders and notes effects in patient’s progress notes within two hours of administrationGives TB test to all patients as orderedPerforms ongoing physical and medical assessments and medicates in accordance with doctor’s ordersTakes vital signs and charts information within every 8 hours on each patient, and/or as often as required which will be dictated by each patient’s conditionInforms Physician of special patient dietary needs or conditionObtains order for diet and notifies Aide of any food allergies or special diet requiredCompletes HIV brief risk intervention with each patient at least every six monthsCompletes paperwork when returning medication to pharmacyCompletes progress notes on each patient at least twice within a shift periodWorks, follows directives and doctor’s orders with minimal supervisionAssists Physician in rounds, keeping them abreast of each patient’s physical and emotional needsRecords quantities of all controlled substances at the beginning end of each shift and in the company of oncoming nurse. Signs and dates appropriate control formsAssesses patient’s readiness for discharge, writes discharge summary in the progress notes, giving condition of patient on discharge and discharge dispositionMinimum Qualifications:Current active Washington State Nursing License and experience in chemical dependency, mental health, medical surgical procedures or other areas of nursing relevant to the positionThe incumbent must pass a criminal background checkMust have current TB test or x-ray at time of hireMust have a current First Aid/CPR card per licensing requirementsAbility to speak and hear at normal conversation levels, observe subtle visual cues, and work in an environment that may be noisy and include a variety of distracting activitiesAbility to successfully complete all aspects of withdrawal management safety training courses such as Marty Smith and AVADEAbility to move about the facility quickly to respond to emergency situationsAbility to appropriately intervene (physically and verbally) with individuals with uncontrolled behaviorAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Open Shift:Full-Time: Thursday-Saturday/Sunday (Night Shift: 7pm - 7am)Compensation & Benefits:health/vision/dental/life insurance (full-time)403(b) retirement planemployee assistance program13 days vacation per year13 sick days per year12 paid federal holidays + 1 floating holidayCurrent active Washington State Nursing License and experience in chemical dependency, mental health, medical surgical procedures or other areas of nursing relevant to the positionThe incumbent must pass a criminal background checkMust have current TB test or x-ray at time of hireMust have a current First Aid/CPR card per licensing requirements #J-18808-Ljbffr Metropolitan Development Council
