A typical day in this role involves reviewing your patient schedule and preparing for a mix of exams, cleanings, and restorative procedures. You'll greet patients, review their dental and medical histories, and take time to answer questions and ease any concerns before beginning treatment. Throughout the day, you'll move between diagnostic reviews, hands-on procedures such as fillings or crown preparations, and check-ins with your hygienists and assistants to keep the schedule running smoothly. Between patients, you'll document treatment notes, review X-rays, and coordinate with the front office on treatment plans and referrals. The pace is steady and varied, giving you the chance to work on a broad range of cases while staying connected with a small, familiar team throughout the day.

General Dentist Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive dental care to patients of varying ages, including exams, cleanings, and preventive treatments
• Diagnose oral health conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans
• Perform general dentistry procedures such as fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions, and root canals
• Review patient dental and medical histories to guide treatment decisions
• Read X-rays and other diagnostic imaging to assess oral health
• Administer local anesthesia and monitor patient comfort throughout procedures
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and treatment options
• Refer patients to specialists when advanced or specialized dental care is needed
• Collaborate with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other team members to ensure smooth patient care
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date treatment records in dental practice software
• Follow sterilization and infection control protocols in accordance with regulations
• Stay current on new techniques, materials, and best practices in general dentistry

General Dentist Requirements

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree
• Active, valid dental license in good standing as required by the state of Arizona
• Strong clinical skills across a broad range of general dentistry procedures
• Excellent communication skills with patients and coworkers
• A patient, empathetic approach that helps put patients at ease
• Comfort using dental practice software and diagnostic imaging systems
• A professional approach to patient confidentiality and safety
• CPR certification, as required
