MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for planning, implementing and assessing Jefferson County Schools’ curriculum based on WV Content Standards and Objectives Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs Responsible for implementing 21ST Century technology skills Responsible for planning and implementing inclusion with special education students May be responsible for planning & implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs, awards programs and field trips Responsible for administering approved formative and/or summative assessments Responsible for planning and implementing tiered instruction for reading and math Addresses and implements students’ IEPs and 504 Plans and recommends revisions when needed Adheres to JCS Grading and Achievement Policy Strong working/communication skills and collaboration with students, parents and peers to promote and support student learning May direct/support the work of aides, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment Fosters a safe and supportive classroom climate conducive to learning. Meets professional responsibilities. Maintains professional work habits and adheres to the Teacher Code of Conduct. Willing to implement any other programs designated by Principal for school improvement Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by Principal.QUALIFICATIONS
Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate. Demonstrated knowledge of elementary content and curriculum. Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and university.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level is low to moderate (20-60 dB), except in gymnasiums or vocational/technical laboratories where it may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB). The employee continuously interacts with colleagues, the public, vendors, school staff, and students.ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Responsible for planning and implementing WV content standards and high‑quality secondary learning objectives, instructing students using effective instructional strategies and providing appropriate learning experiences, with high expectations for all. Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Participate as a contributing member of the relevant, assigned department or program. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as assigned. Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives and requirements Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment. Maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice. Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other JCS facilities. Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues. Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware. Effectively communicates with students, parents, and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication Be accountable for individual student achievement and provide grades in accordance with the school’s grading policy and procedures. May be responsible for planning and implementing designated co‑curricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs, awards programs and field trips Provides strong working/communication skills with students, parents, peers, and the community Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning. Meets professional responsibilities and maintains professional work habits adhering to the Employee Code of Conduct. Maintain a professional development plan according to district policies, and strive to improve professional competencies. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and university. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels of the assigned endorsement area, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate. Knowledge of and ability to implement the assigned subject matter relative to the duties and responsibilities listed on this job description. Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner. Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed. Maintains regular, on‑time attendance.
