The Clinical Specialist is a resource for the execution of the Medication Delivery Solutions value-added clinical business strategy. The role implements clinical programs and initiatives that differentiate the MDS product portfolio based on improved clinical outcomes and process enhancements which may lower cost-in-use. The expertise and credentials of the Clinical Specialist enhance credibility of recommendations to customers and strengthen customer service and support through best-practice education. The Clinical Specialist actively engages in conversion management, product implementation and training of Medication Delivery Solutions products. The Clinical Specialist reports to a Clinical Manager. This position is Job Group 3. Responsibilities Ultrasound-guided vascular access device placement experience required. As directed by the Clinical Manager, the Clinical Specialist role will be focused on, but not exclusively limited to, the activities outlined below: Performance — Registered Nurse with a bachelor’s degree (BSN preferred). Manages their responsibilities within the allotted T&E expense budget. Provides updates monthly to the Clinical Manager on regional training activities and support provided in region (CE courses, Assessments, Implementations, Customer Meetings, etc.) per activities delineated in the Individual Impact Goals. Facilitates customer training classes in support of conversion or retention for key customers. Collaborates with the Regional Team to clinically support customer engagements from pre-sale through post-conversion. Develops strong, working relationships with end-users while providing product in-servicing and clinical education. Provides routine follow-up support to customers at end-user locations as needed. Conducts regional training for contractual nursing support as needed. Works with CM and RBM to ensure scheduling and activities maximize ROI. Conducts VAM assessments supporting both Vascular Care and Vascular Access sales bags. People/Process Aids sales personnel by building strong, working relationships with end users during product in-servicing and clinical education programs. Works with the Regional Team to ensure the sales and conversion management process is clinically effective throughout the timeline from pre-validation to retention. Establishes excellent rapport with TMs across selling bags, RBM and CM. Works collaboratively with the Region. Collaborates with the Sales Team in key account management strategy sessions. Provides clinical support, training and education for Regional Team members as needed. Shares best practices with the Business, Territory Managers, ATMs, Regional Business Managers, Strategic Customer Group, Area VPs, and counterparts to enhance MDS programs and processes. Provides training activities that help increase clinical acumen for new hires and tenured Territory Managers. Manages the On-call Specialist (OCS) schedule and coordinates team meetings for consistency of messaging. Has responsibility for managing the Regional Team of per diem nurses at the account level to ensure high-quality training to customers. Trains and mentors contract nursing staff to build clinical acumen and identify high-potential nurses for consideration as Clinical Specialist. Works primarily in a geographically defined territory but may assist outside the region based on account clinical needs. Position Requirements Registered Nurse with BSN preferred. Good relationship development skills. Strong communicator with effective verbal and written skills. Proven training skills to conduct educational courses. Persuasive and credible; able to influence without authority. Deals well with ambiguity. Strong understanding and knowledge of infusion therapy, vascular access and key disease states served by MDS products. Provides sales and customer product support for existing and prospective customers. Collaborates with customers and internal staff to develop clinical materials as needed. Follows corporate and divisional regulatory policies when creating and delivering educational material. Assists with training and orientation of new staff. Travels as needed to conduct initial and ongoing training to maintain accounts in designated region and as assigned. Communicates professionally by telephone, e-mail and on-site with internal and external customers. Collaborates with business units through the Clinical Manager to develop and revise marketing materials. Interacts with customer committees as requested (e.g., product, safety, infection control, policy committees). Participates in trade shows to promote the company’s product lines. Networks and participates in local, state, and national chapter affiliations (e.g., INS, ONS). Reports complaints regarding the company’s products and service per BD policy. Works in a safety-conscious manner and complies with safety practices. Maintains confidentiality of information, including proprietary information. For certain roles, employment is contingent on proof of full COVID-19 vaccination as applicable; testing may be available or required in some locations. Qualifications & Competencies Maintains license as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the Board of Nursing. Five (5) years of general clinical experience, including three (3) years related to a MDS product. National certification recommended. Ability to travel up to 70% of the time. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Demonstrates strong work ethic, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and effective relationship-building with internal and external teammates. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, organization and documentation abilities.
