Our client is seeking a skilled  Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair their fleet of heavy construction equipment and trucks used on underground utility and civil projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrains on a wide range of equipment including dozers, excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, and service trucks.

This is a full-time position offering stable, year-round work and the opportunity to be part of a growing contractor with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems on heavy equipment and trucks.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and DOT inspections on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair issues related to hydraulics, brakes, steering, suspension, and powertrain components.
• Maintain accurate service records and document work performed.

Field & Shop Support

• Respond to equipment breakdowns on job sites to minimize downtime.
• Operate service truck and tools safely when performing field repairs.
• Collaborate with operators, foremen, and the Fleet Manager to prioritize maintenance needs.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard area.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures when performing repairs and using tools or equipment.
• Use appropriate PPE and maintain awareness of jobsite hazards.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or near misses promptly.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or technical school preferred.
• 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in construction or heavy equipment environments.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment diagnostics.

Certifications & Licenses

• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR (CDL preferred but not required).
• ASE or OEM certifications a plus (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, etc.).
• OSHA 10 or 30 preferred (can be provided by company).

Skills & Attributes

• Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Proficient with diagnostic software and tools.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, bend, climb, and work in various weather conditions.
• Capable of standing or working in awkward positions for extended periods.
• Must be comfortable working outdoors and on active construction sites.
