POSITION SUMMARY The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates across Golden Construction Services’ commercial masonry, irrigation, landscaping, concrete, steel, and general construction divisions. This role analyzes blueprints, specifications, financial documentation, labor requirements, subcontractor pricing, and project risks to develop detailed estimates, bids, and cost forecasts that support successful project execution and business growth. The Estimator plays a critical role in securing new work, maintaining profit margins, supporting project planning efforts, and ensuring estimates align with company capabilities, client expectations, and project requirements. SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE Estimates are submitted accurately, competitively, and within required deadlines while supporting targeted profit margins and business objectives Project scopes, labor requirements, materials, subcontractor costs, and risk factors are evaluated thoroughly with minimal estimating errors Bid opportunities are tracked, prioritized, and managed effectively to maximize win rates and support company growth Project handoffs to operations teams are complete, organized, and provide the information necessary for successful project execution Strong relationships are maintained with clients, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, contributing to long‑term business success OBJECTIVES Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine scope, requirements, and estimating needs Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project‑related expenses across multiple construction divisions Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and measurements including length, area, volume, and material calculations required for project estimating Analyze financial documentation, project requirements, and cost data to support accurate project forecasting and budgeting Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and complete bid submissions Analyze project risks, site conditions, scheduling considerations, and operational constraints when developing estimates Prepare proposals, bid packages, budgets, and supporting documentation in accordance with company standards Maintain supplier, contractor, and subcontractor databases and pricing information to support estimating accuracy and responsiveness Conduct site visits and project reviews to gather information, validate assumptions, and improve estimate accuracy Coordinate with project managers, field leaders, and company leadership to validate project assumptions and execution strategies Provide complete and organized project handoff information following project award to support operational success Continuously improve estimating processes, cost accuracy, forecasting methods, and bidding strategies to support profitability and growth COMPETENCIES Construction estimating expertise across commercial and specialty contracting projects Strong ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, drawings, and bid documents Quantity takeoff and measurement capability with strong construction mathematics skills Knowledge of labor productivity, construction methods, and project execution requirements Cost accounting, cost forecasting, and financial analysis capability Attention to detail and commitment to estimating accuracy Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously Vendor, supplier, and subcontractor relationship management capability Strong written, verbal, negotiation, and communication skills Proficiency with estimating software, Bluebeam, CAD software, spreadsheets, and construction management tools Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments and support project success EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED required Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Accounting, or related field preferred 3+ years of construction estimating experience required Experience estimating commercial construction, masonry, landscaping, irrigation, concrete, steel, or related projects preferred Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, contracts, and bid documents required Experience performing quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and project forecasting required Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, estimating software, and construction management software required Experience utilizing CAD software such as AutoCAD or Revit preferred Strong understanding of construction methods, cost accounting principles, and project costing required Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendor pricing processes preferred Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods while preparing estimates, reviewing plans, and analyzing project information Ability to review construction drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and financial information with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, field personnel, and internal teams Ability to travel occasionally to project sites, pre‑bid meetings, client meetings, and company locations as needed Ability to occasionally lift office materials, plans, files, or equipment weighing up to 15 pounds Ability to maintain focus and manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced construction
