Staff Accountant

Position Summary: The Catholic Diocese of Rockford is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Supervisor and provide accounting support to parishes, schools, and diocesan agencies throughout the Rockford Diocese. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and wants to use their technical skills in support of a mission-driven Catholic organization. This position plays an important role in ensuring accurate and compliant financial records are maintained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Generate monthly financial reports for parishes, schools and agencies

• Review and import transaction data, verify key account balances, create/review/record journal entries as needed.
• Generate monthly financial reports with Serenic jet reports.
• Monitor parishes are providing financial data to the Diocese on a timely basis.
• Enter and review annual budgets.
• Review year-to-date general ledgers at mid-year and year-end for accuracy and assist locations with entries for any corrections required.
• Assist bookkeepers with any questions on financial reports and reconciliations.
• Provide support to bookkeepers with QuickBooks questions using remote access via TeamViewer.

2. Payroll Responsibilities using Paylocity • Review and compare electronic timecards to hours submitted, ensure appropriate deductions and fees are applied, and release payroll for multiple locations on various pay cycles. 3. Shared Accounting Office Financial Responsibilities

• Assist and support operations and accounting activities, as needed, for the Accounting and Data Processing Office, Information Technology, Diocesan Energy Program, Diocesan Lay Pension Plan and the 403b/Roth programs. Functions may include creating annual budgets, preparing deposits, generating invoices, processes payments, reconciling bank accounts, and compiling monthly and quarterly financial reports.
• Maintain accounting log with incoming financial data and completed parish financials.
• Investigate outstanding checks older than 6 months.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting and/or payroll experience.
• Possess proficiency in QuickBooks, Paylocity and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work collaboratively, problem-solve and meet deadlines effectively.
• High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
• Comply with all Diocesan handbooks, policies, and guidelines.
