Custodian (Part-Time, 2nd Shift Position)Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for Custodian (part-time, 2nd shift position). Custodians perform tasks related to the cleaning and maintenance of various buildings and their surroundings and to create a safe and clean environment for students and staff.Essential duties and responsibilities: Other duties appropriate to the position may be assigned.Part-Time Position, 2nd shiftSweeps or shovels snow from steps, ramps, and walks at building entrances and salts icy steps and walks as necessaryCleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the buildingAssists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building or in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and/or materialRestocks disposable items and provides supervisor with inventory usage and dataAssists in maintaining safe working conditions for all employees in the building and on the groundsPerforms any immediate custodial needs requested by the building administratorAssists in other assignments of an unusual or emergency nature when needed to insure the District's ability to operateMaintains the equipment pertinent to custodial duties in satisfactory working conditionsAssists in the unloading and distribution of materialsWorks with other custodians and personnel cooperativelySweeps, mops, and scrubs floors and other surfacesCleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishesCleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishingsCleans chalkboards/whiteboards, chalk rails, and erasersWashes/cleans light fixturesReplaces light bulbs/tubes as necessaryPaintingMoves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipmentCollects, bags, and disposes of trashLocks doors and windows to classrooms and offices at end of dayTurns off unnecessary lightingCleans and services lavatories, toilet rooms, and locker roomsWashes all interior and exterior glass including framed pictures, partitions, and doorsReports items that require repairFollows written work scheduleCoordinates work with lead Operations Utility Coordinator and Operations SupervisorGuards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry; maintain building security each school dayAbility to work from ladders and/or scaffoldingMaintains and operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned tasksVacuums, spot cleans, and extracts carpet as necessaryPerforms all assigned duties in a manner in which contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the students, staff and buildingsPerforms all custodial/operations duties assigned by supervisorsMaintains regular, reliable and punctual attendanceThis role includes a schedule that may involve rotating weekend shiftsAny other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the administrationThe employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the DistrictSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneQualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
