About the Role:

The Nurse Practitioner - Inpatient Wound Care plays a critical role in delivering specialized care to patients with complex wounds within a hospital setting. This position focuses on comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic wounds to promote healing and prevent complications. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and therapists to develop and implement individualized care plans. The Nurse Practitioner will also educate patients and their families on wound care techniques and prevention strategies to support recovery and reduce readmission rates. Ultimately, this role aims to improve patient outcomes through expert wound management and evidence-based clinical practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the United States.
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., ANCC or AANP certification).
• Experience in wound care management, preferably in an inpatient or acute care setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Wound Care Certification such as Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) or Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification (WOCN).
• Experience with advanced wound care technologies and modalities.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems used in inpatient settings.
• Strong background in patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Additional certifications in related specialties such as diabetes management or vascular care.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough patient assessments including wound evaluation, history taking, and diagnostic testing as needed.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for wound care, including debridement, dressing selection, and advanced therapies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and ensure continuity across inpatient services.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly to optimize healing and prevent infection or other complications.
• Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding wound care management and prevention strategies.
• Document all patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record system.
• Stay current with the latest wound care research, techniques, and best practices to maintain high standards of care.

The Nurse Practitioner will utilize clinical assessment skills daily to accurately evaluate wound status and patient needs, ensuring precise diagnosis and treatment planning. Advanced wound care knowledge and technical skills are essential for performing procedures such as debridement and selecting appropriate dressings or therapies. Effective communication skills are critical for educating patients and collaborating with healthcare teams to coordinate comprehensive care. Documentation skills ensure all patient interactions and treatments are recorded accurately for legal compliance and continuity of care. Additionally, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are applied continuously to adapt treatment plans based on patient progress and emerging clinical evidence.
