Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

We're hiring a Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment plant, including equipment maintenance, quality control/testing, and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift. This role typically holds — or is working toward — an intermediate-level water/wastewater treatment certification. Pay: $20.00- $24.00 per hour

What You'll Do

• Operate treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent
• Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels
• Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings
• Operate valves and gates either manually or by remote control
• Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
• Maintain shift logs and record meter and gauge readings
• Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses
• Perform routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
• Make operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED
• Certification at the level required by the state in which the project is located
• One year of experience operating water/wastewater treatment plants
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic familiarity with the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects of industrial waste on treatment processes; and safe work practices

Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, confined spaces, heights/depths, fumes, and chemicals. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and use standard PPE.
