Registered Nurse

Unit includes multiple departments. Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac issues, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts. Occasionally, ratios may reach 1:7 towards the end of a shift depending on patient acuity. Travelers must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips, but titration of drips is not required. Charge nurses are present on every unit, with night charge nurses taking patient assignments. Certified Nursing Assistants are utilized on this unit to assist with patient care. Respiratory therapy is managed by designated personnel for equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP. Nurses are responsible for monitoring patients but may have support from monitor technicians. Shifts are 12 hours, operating from 7 PM to 7 AM. Staff must be available to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotation. Unit assignments are coordinated by clinical supervisors, with a focus on patient safety and nurse competency. Dress code includes royal blue scrubs. Travelers typically receive 1-2 shifts of training with a preceptor. The environment encourages adaptability and collaborative patient care.
