Job Overview  

This position is responsible for leading system-wide pharmacy business operations, including financial performance, supply chain strategy, revenue cycle optimization, 340B program management, medication-use analytics, and enterprise data analytics. The role provides strategic and operational leadership across pharmacy business lines and sites of care.

This position leader serves as a key driver of value optimization across the system, advancing initiatives that balance cost stewardship with patient access to high-quality, evidence-based medications. The position partners with pharmacy and clinical leadership to support medication-use optimization initiatives and provide business, financial, and operational analysis that informs strategic decision-making and organizational priorities.

Working in close partnership with pharmacy, medical, nursing, and administrative leadership across all entities, this role ensures alignment of strategies, operating plans, and performance metrics to support system-wide pharmacy growth, compliance, and innovation.

Job Description  

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution. 

2. Massachusetts’s Pharmacist License. 

3. Five (5) years of hospital pharmacy leadership experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. PharmD.

2. Completion of a general pharmacy residency and specialty residency.

3. Seven (7) years of hospital pharmacy leadership experience.

4. Academic medical center experience.

5. Master’s degree in health-related field or business administration.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.  

1. Leads the strategic oversight and optimization of the system 340B program, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements while maximizing program value.

2. Partners with system and entity leadership to develop and execute strategic and financial plans, including annual budgets and multi-year forecasts.

3. Identifies and evaluates new business opportunities and service lines that expand pharmacy capabilities, improve patient access, and contribute to system growth.

4. Directs cross-functional initiatives that span multiple pharmacy business lines or sites of care, including high-priority system projects related to growth, efficiency, compliance, and innovation.

5. Manages financial and operational metrics and systems to manage and optimize the financial performance of Pharmacy Services.

6. Leads enterprise pharmacy business analytics, leveraging data to inform strategic decision-making, measure performance, and identify emerging opportunities related to drug spend, reimbursement, utilization, and growth.

7. Ensures optimization of pharmacy revenue cycle processes, including charging, billing, reimbursement strategy, and charge master maintenance.

8. Identifies opportunities to optimize medication spend, reimbursement, contracting performance, and operational efficiency while supporting organizational goals related to quality, access, and financial stewardship.

9. Partners with clinical and operational leaders to identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for medication-related cost savings, revenue optimization, and margin improvement across all sites of care.

10. Partners with pharmacy, finance, compliance, and clinical leadership to identify and implement opportunities to expand 340B savings, enhance contract pharmacy performance, and align program strategy with system goals related to medication access, cost stewardship, and margin improvement across all sites of care.

11. Oversees pharmacy supply chain strategy within Pharmacy Services, including procurement, contracting, inventory optimization, and vendor management, ensuring alignment with system financial and operational goals.

12. Takes ownership for the contract management for pharmacy business lines including yet not limited to contract compliance reviews and other data analytics.

13. Supports pharmacy governance structures and clinical decision-making processes through data analytics, financial modeling, operational assessments, and implementation planning.

14. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements across pharmacy operations.

15. Promotes the adoption of best practices, innovation, and emerging models of care that enhance quality, service, and financial performance

16. Directly supervises key leaders of Pharmacy Services including yet not limited to directors and/or managers.

17. Leads, mentors, and develops pharmacy leaders, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

18. Establishes individual performance goals and objectives, and completes reviews, at least annually, on assigned pharmacy leaders.

19. Leads/Participates in recruitment and hiring of pharmacy personnel.

20. Provides human resource management of direct reporting positions.

21. Participates in educational programs, as an attendee or lecturer, to bring knowledge to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care and service.

22. Initiates, develops, implements, and maintains policy and procedures in other areas as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequent standing & walking, and lifting of 5-10 lbs. 

2. May required lifting and carrying light loads, including boxes, equipment, and stooping or kneeling. 

3. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate prescription medications and computer keyboard. 

4. Requires ability to see medications, computer screen and reports.

8. Highly developed ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies, and ability to lead and manage through influence. 

9. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, commensurate presentation skills, in setting from one on one to large groups. 

10. Ability to lead quality and service improvement activities and achieving outcomes that respond to customer expectations. 

11. Knowledge in assessing market opportunities, developing business plans, and implementing programs to respond to such opportunities. 

12. Ability to lead the design and organization of work and allocation of resources to achieve appropriate staffing levels, staffing mix and productivity levels. 

13. Participative manager and leader, advocate of team collaboration. 

14. Results oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations. 

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing pharmacy related services in a hospital or retail setting. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Pharmacy Leadership duties: Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors. Responsibilities also include long-term strategic planning, determining the policies of the organization, and allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision. A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that directs a department or small unit that includes multiple teams led by managers and/or team Leaders. Responsibilities typically include: ownership of short to mid-term (1-3 years) execution of functional strategy and the operational direction of the Department, problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis, and requires ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.
