Family Support Advocate

Apply by Thursday, July 23, 2026! Work Schedule Monday - Friday. This position will work 40 hours per week within FRC operating hours: MON/THU/FRI: 8am - 6pm, TUE/WED: 8am - 8pm. The FSA will work one (1) evening shift (11am-8pm) per week on Tuesdays. Summary Description Under general supervision, coordinates interviews for referred clients, evaluates family needs and provides referrals to support programs; and performs related work as required. Receives general direction from the Family Resource Center Coordinator. The Family Support Advocate (FSA) does not exercise technical direction or functional supervision over staff. This classification is assigned to a County of Orange grant‑funded program operated by the City of Stanton as the lead agency. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all‑inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Key Responsibilities Meets with and assesses clients, develops case plan to document services needed such as counseling, food, and other basic needs; tracks clients in order to monitor situation and determines if continued assistance is required. Presents family case plans in weekly team meetings; team reviews and recommends additional services for clients, if necessary. Inputs case management notes and data into County database programs. Provides in‑home services with OC Social Services Agency (SSA) team, as needed. Communicates applicable case related information to SSA staff. Performs intermittent duties at the intake desk to provide coverage during staff absences, breaks, and lunches. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge Required Needs, problems, attitudes, and behaviors of people in target communities. Practices and philosophy of human service programs, social services agencies operations and procedures, and case management. Basic principles and methods of public administration, family management, and youth development. Record keeping principles and procedures. Modern office practices, methods, computer equipment and applications related to the work. English and Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. Techniques for effectively representing the City in contacts with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff. Safe driving principles and practices. Abilities / Skills Build and maintain rapport and trust with clients. Maintain client confidentiality. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in both Spanish and English. Perform technical research, evaluate data, and prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive written and oral reports. Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials. Maintain accurate records and files of work performed. Make sound, independent decisions within established policy and procedural guidelines. Establish and maintain a variety of filing, record‑keeping, and tracking systems. Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines. Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs. Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Experience / Training / Education Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field from an accredited university. OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience providing direct services to families. Spanish proficiency is required. Physical Activities and Requirements Ability to work in a standard office environment requiring prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily activities. Movements frequently and regularly require using the wrists, hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment. Occasional overtime, weekend and/or evening work may be required. Ability to hear and convey detailed or important instructions or information verbally and accurately. Average visual acuity to prepare and read documents. Ability to communicate with both the public and co‑workers in a clear and concise manner. Adapt to standard office sounds generated by office equipment as well as standard noise levels resulting from communication with co‑workers and the general public.
