Roadway Design Engineer

Roadway Design Engineer Location: Greensboro, NC. Candidates may also be based in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Mooresville, NC offices. The successful candidate will have experience in civil/roadway design and plans production for traditional delivery and/or alternative delivery projects. The North Carolina Roadway Design Team serves clients across the region on projects ranging from major interstate reconstruction to pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. This position is an excellent opportunity for growth within WSP. Your Impact Work on project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering, final design, and development of construction plans, calculations, and specifications. Collaborate as part of a multi‑discipline team of engineers to execute work on multiple concurrent projects. Participate hands‑on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E). Review, monitor and develop design layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, and estimate standards and guidelines, correspondence, and reports. Assist project managers and task leads with proactive project coordination and collaboration efforts, including coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients. Apply high‑level civil engineering techniques to identify improvements for infrastructure project phases: concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction and operation. Collaborate with professionals, planners, and infrastructure authorities on federally, state, regional and locally funded projects, and proposal and business development opportunities. Remain current with latest civil engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline. 3–5 years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering and civil/roadway design. Engineer in Training certification or ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License in NC. Experience on DOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design and calculations, and roadway plan production). Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer/Geopak roadway design software. Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects. Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated high‑level self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Commitment to upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Flexible to meet a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
