Platform Engineer | Global Trading Firm | Chicago / Remote US

Job Description

Build the platform behind a fast-growing trading firm, with real ownership from day one.

A global derivatives trading firm with a small, flat, engineering-led culture is growing their Platform Engineering team and want engineers who’d rather design and build infrastructure than maintain something someone else designed.

You don’t need any finance experience. If you’ve built serious cloud and Kubernetes platforms at a tech company, a SaaS business or a consultancy, you’re exactly who they want to talk to.

What you’ll do

\n
• Design, build and run cloud and Kubernetes platforms used by engineers and researchers across the firm
\n
• Own architecture decisions on AWS, including EKS, IAM and networking, and help shape a hybrid-cloud setup
\n
• Write reusable Terraform and build automation and tooling in Python
\n
• Run deployments through GitOps (ArgoCD)
\n
• Work with trading, quant research and low-latency engineering teams on what they need next
\n
• Support what you build in production, including on-call
\n

What you’ll bring

\n
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience in production: you’ve run, upgraded and troubleshot clusters, not just deployed apps to them
\n
• Strong AWS skills, ideally including EKS
\n
• Terraform you’ve written yourself: modules and state management
\n
• Real Python coding ability
\n
• Solid Linux troubleshooting
\n
• GitOps experience (ArgoCD or similar)
\n
• 3+ years of experience
\n

Nice to have: GCP, on-prem Kubernetes, Spark or Kafka, GPU or ML infrastructure, Prometheus/Grafana, Jenkins or GitLab CI.

Why this role

\n
• Ownership: you’ll propose and ship your own initiatives in a small team where your work is visible
\n
• Breadth: your platform work will span cloud, Kubernetes, low-latency, quant research and data systems, rather than one narrow area
\n
• Impact: your work is shared across desks, asset classes and regions, so it isn’t stuck inside one team
\n
• Culture: flat, low bureaucracy, startup-like, inside an established and profitable firm
\n
• Flexibility: remote-first team, with Chicago hybrid available
\n
• Location: Chicago or remote US (Central or Eastern time zones preferred)
