Registered Nurse PRN 1 Critical Care

Overview Houston Methodist seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) PRN in Critical Care to provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population. The RN will conduct nursing assessments, assist with exams and treatments, educate patients, maintain medical records, and deliver direct patient care with efficiency and compassion. Collaboration with physicians and the interprofessional health‑care team will ensure quality care and positive treatment outcomes. FLSA Status Non‑exempt Qualifications Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations section Two years of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment Licenses and Certifications Required RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing/PSV Compact Licensure; must obtain a permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) within 4 months NIHSTROKE – National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (AHA) within 4 months Preferred Magnet – ANCC Recognized Certification NVCRISIS – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates skills and competencies for safe job performance as defined by competency checklists Proficient English language skills necessary for patient and employee safety Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and co‑workers, applying a customer‑service focus Strong assessment, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks Independent judgment in interactions with the health‑care team and patients/families Critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously under the Nurse Practice Act Proficient time‑management skills and adherence to the Clinical Career Path program Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and related products Essential Functions People Use therapeutic communication, active listening, and teaching to establish relationships with patients, families, and the health‑care team Collaborate to foster healthy work relationships, provide and receive guidance, and apply feedback to improve outcomes Educate staff and students, coach and mentor, and contribute to department retention and engagement metrics Service Follow patient‑centered care standards; conduct assessments, assist with exams, and maintain records, respecting cultural diversity and inclusion Develop, update, and communicate plans of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family, and team Provide patient teaching tailored to learning needs; assess comprehension and adapt methods Drive improvement of patient satisfaction scores through accountability and adherence to service standards Quality/ Safety Follow standards of care related to the nursing process; identify practice improvement opportunities using evidence‑based research Coordinate care for complex patients, use clinical judgment, and document accurately Improve quality and safety scores through accountability, reporting near misses, and interprofessional collaboration Finance Self‑motivated time management; minimize overtime and prioritize tasks Provide input into unit resource utilization and budget needs Contribute to department financial targets by reducing length of stay and optimizing efficiency Growth/Innovation Identify and present innovation, efficiency, and improvement opportunities using evidence‑based practice Champion new care pathways and service line implementation to improve community service; research changes and present options Supplemental Requirements Work Attire Uniform: No Scrubs: Yes Business professional: No Other (department approved): No On‑Call Yes (employees may be required to be on‑call during emergencies) Travel May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area: Yes May require travel outside Houston Metropolitan area: No #J-18808-Ljbffr Houston Methodist
