Electrical Technician - Power Plant

The Electrical Technician - Power Plant is responsible for the safe and reliable maintenance of electrical generation and distribution equipment across HKN Syria's power plant, including generators, excitation and synchronising systems, HV / MV switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and associated distribution.

The role carries out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and testing on power generation equipment, working as an authorised person under the site electrical safety rules and permit-to-work system to ensure the safe isolation and restoration of electrical supplies. The position requires strong electrical maintenance fundamentals, hands-on experience with power generation and HV / MV systems in power plant or oil and gas environments, and the ability to work safely on energised and de-energised systems in a demanding, remote field environment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Power Generation Electrical Maintenance
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on power plant electrical equipment, including generators / alternators, excitation and AVR systems, synchronising and control panels, and generator auxiliaries.
  • Maintain and fault-find HV / MV switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and power distribution systems.
  • Support generator synchronising, paralleling, and load-sharing operations, and troubleshoot related electrical faults.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and functional checks of generation and distribution equipment in accordance with procedures and schedules.
• Protection, Control & Testing
  • Maintain, test, and calibrate electrical protection relays and generator protection systems.
  • Use electrical test instruments (multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, and injection test sets as applicable) to test and verify equipment condition.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and performance checks of new or overhauled generation and electrical equipment.
  • Read and work from electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Electrical Safety & Isolation
  • Work as an authorised person under the site electrical safety rules and permit-to-work system.
  • Carry out safe electrical isolations, switching, and de-isolations on HV / MV and LV systems under the direction of the Responsible Electrical Person (REP) / Senior Authorised Person.
  • Ensure electrical work is carried out on de-energised systems, and on energised systems only where properly authorised and controlled.
  • Apply lock-out / tag-out (LOTO) and isolation procedures at all times.
• HSSE & Compliance
  • Comply with HKN HSSE policies, the electrical safety rules, and the permit-to-work system at all times.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, test results, and equipment history in the CMMS, and coordinate with operations and other maintenance disciplines.
  • Report electrical hazards, faults, incidents, and near-misses promptly, and ensure the correct use of tools and PPE.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Diploma, technical certificate, or trade qualification in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Maintenance or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical maintenance experience, preferably in power generation, oil and gas, or petrochemical facilities.
• Hands-on experience maintaining and fault-finding power generation equipment (generators, excitation / AVR, synchronising) and HV / MV systems (switchgear, transformers, MCCs).
• Experience with electrical protection relays and generator protection, testing, and calibration.
• Working knowledge of electrical safety rules, safe isolation, and permit-to-work systems.
• Ability to work as an authorised person on electrical systems under the direction of the REP / Senior Authorised Person.
• Competent in the use of electrical test instruments and the interpretation of electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and protection schematics.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical standards and safe working practices.
• Willingness to work rotational schedules in remote field locations in Syria, with the ability to respond to electrical breakdowns.
• Demonstrated commitment to HSSE standards, electrical safety, and safe operating practices in field environments.
