Job Description Welcome to Olsson’s Energy Environmental team, where innovation meets sustainability. Our team of scientists and biologists supports the continued growth of our Energy Market, helping our clients expand energy infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the country. As an Assistant Scientist, you will support renewable energy and transmission projects by completing pre‑ and post‑construction surveys of environmental resources, monitoring resources during construction, and preparing technical reports documenting findings. This position focuses on building foundational field and technical skills under the guidance of experienced staff who provide mentorship, training, and guidance to support your professional growth. Fieldwork will be performed as part of a team, with responsibilities focused on executing established survey methodologies and accurately collecting data. You will develop skills in bird identification, wetland delineation, stormwater compliance, and vegetation management while fulfilling your dream of working to support the natural environment. With the dynamic nature of this work, no two days are the same. Primary Responsibilities Conduct pre‑ and post‑construction environmental surveys, including migratory bird and avian use surveys, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and vegetation monitoring. Monitor environmental resources during construction projects, including completing bird surveys, stormwater inspections, and documenting construction activities. Assist in preparing technical reports and documenting findings. Provide support to project teams with task tracking and coordination under close guidance from senior staff. Assist with project documentation, data organization, and coordination efforts to support overall project delivery. Assist with communicating environmental findings to project teams and stakeholders. Participate in overnight and out‑of‑state travel for fieldwork, with willingness to work a non‑traditional schedule as needed. Travel and outdoor fieldwork will be a primary job duty during field season. Qualifications You are passionate about: Working collaboratively with others. Having ownership in the work you do. Excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving skills. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Resources, or a related field. Previous coursework or experience in ecology, biology, or environmental science preferred. Interest in and enthusiasm for travel and outdoor fieldwork. Knowledge of bird identification and stormwater principles is preferred. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
