We are seeking a self-motivated and friendly Speech Language Pathologist to provide services to students throughout our district. You will develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs), interventions and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders, in accordance with state and federal regulations. As a Speech Language Pathologist with Joplin, you must possess excellent written communication skills, to develop IEPs and document student progress and superb verbal communication skills to facilitate collaboration with fellow educators, administrators and parents as well as supervise speech therapist implementers. You also must be able to work independently and be accountable for your work.
Qualifications
- Appropriate License with the Board of Healing Arts
- Master's degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology
- CCC or CFY licensure
- Experience working with students with autism, multiple disabilities and moderate to severe cognitive disabilities preferred
- Ability to assess, analyze and remediate identified communication disorders, including articulation, voice, fluency, language and processing
- Wide knowledge base incorporating evidence-based practices
- Ability to drive to various school building locations based on your caseload

- Arrive to work and leave work at the time specified by supervisors and attend all required meetings pertinent to the position.
- Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
- Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
- Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
Essential Functions
- Provide instruction to students in small and large groups
- Create and implement a classroom management system
- Support student behavior needs as appropriate
- Create therapy plans and implement them based on IEP goals and needs
- Collaborate with professional colleagues on IEP teams
- Collect progress data on student IEP goals
- Participate in building, grade level, and subject area committees
- Participate in professional development activities
- Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
- Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested
- Implement special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs and individual health plans
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassment as directed by Board policy
- Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
- Subject area teachers may have additional duties and responsibilities
Supervisory Duties
- Supervise students at all times
Physical Demands
- An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
- Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
- Move around the classroom
- Read handwritten or printed material

Conditions and Environment
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
