Associate Counsel - San Diego, CA (Remote)

Job Summary

Associate Counsel – Insurance Defense, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Francisco (Remote). Responsible for defending lawsuits filed in California courts and other first‑party insurance defense matters.

Responsibilities

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions/examinations, and examinations under oath.
• Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.

Qualifications

• 2–6+ years of experience in related field litigation (insurance defense and/or personal injury).
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the California Bar; licensed in good standing and compliant with continuing legal education requirements.
• Willingness and ability to travel for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.
• Strong written communication skills; ability to document files clearly and professionally.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense‑related litigation experience.
• Effective professional communication in person, telephone, and written correspondence/email.

Location

Remote – based in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, or San Francisco region.

Salary

$112,750.00–$186,550.00 per year (range; final offer based on qualifications and market).
