Security and Campus Safety Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security and Campus Safety Officer to join the University of Bristol’s Security Services team. A range of professional, security‑related training is provided. The role is a fundamental part of the University community and provides reassurance to staff, students, and visitors alike. Responsibilities Perform foot and mobile security patrols. Engage actively with students, staff, and visitors. Monitor and respond to critical and life‑safety alarms. Operate a modern 24/7 Security Control Room. Provide emergency “first responder” services to a wide spectrum of incidents. Enforce car‑parking regulations. Promote crime‑reduction and personal‑safety awareness across the University community. Liaise with emergency services as required. Work as part of a team of uniformed, well‑trained professional Security and Campus Safety Officers on a rotational 12‑hour shift pattern, averaging 35 hours per week over a 12‑month period. Roster pattern: 11‑hour shifts (plus 1‑hour unpaid meal relief) comprising 2 days and 2 nights followed by 4 days off. Qualifications Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. Experience in a customer‑facing role, ideally in security. Ability to dynamically risk‑assess any given situation. Accurate recording of incidents. Essential Full UK driving licence. Desirable (but not essential) SIA Public Space Surveillance (PSS) or CCTV licence. First Aid qualification (with 1 day additional leave on qualification). Experience in a similar role. We would particularly welcome applications from women.
