Sample Management Specialist

Job Description Summary The Sample Management Specialist will actively work with peers to ensure the efficient operation of the Sample Management group. The position coordinates sample movement over the local site, including receipt, inventory, storage, return, and disposal. It also implements and maintains an electronic database that monitors sample movement through the project life cycle, ensuring inventory records are current, providing storage costs to clients, and overseeing the issuance of storage invoices. The role includes responsibility for health & safety, environment, productivity, and quality priorities. Job Functions Establish methods and procedures to ensure samples are correctly tracked and inventoried. Implement continual improvement procedures for sample tracking. Lead sample control efforts within the Sample Management group. Oversee sample receipt, return, disposal, and storage requirements of projects and clients. Prepare projects’ technical and financial proposals for return, disposal, and storage purposes. Plan, schedule, and coordinate tasks required to execute sample control. Implement sample management methodologies for efficient tracking of all samples on site. Communicate with clients, peers, and subordinates regarding sample management. Prepare internal reports related to sample management. Promote a team environment among staff. Ensure training needs of staff are met and maintain a motivated workforce. Set goals and review employee performance and training needs. Resolve work issues constructively and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality. Follow all Health, Safety and Environment policies and regulations. Travel off‑site for projects and occasionally work extended hours on/off‑site. Qualifications Education and Experience High School diploma or GED. Licenses and Certifications Must have a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license at all times. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work with all chemicals, petrochemicals, and petroleum. Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds; climb, bend, and reach without restriction. Familiarity with data entry. Excellent oral and written communication skills. High level of accuracy, with special attention to detail. Ability to read and comprehend labels and instructions. Ability to follow instructions independently with little or no supervision. Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other applications. Physical Demands of the Job Stand frequently. Move or traverse frequently. Sit frequently. Use hands frequently. Reach with hands and arms frequently. Climb or balance occasionally. Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally. Talk/hear frequently. Taste/Smell occasionally.
