Chief Psychiatrist Consultant (Delaware Licensed) – SSA Disability Program | Hybrid Flexibility

We are seeking a highly qualified Chief Psychiatrist Consultant to support disability determination evaluations aligned with Social Security Administration program policy. This is a unique opportunity for a licensed psychiatrist to apply clinical expertise in a consultative, impact-driven role supporting public sector decision-making.

Position Overview

In this role, you will evaluate complex psychiatric evidence, provide expert medical opinions, and support disability determinations in accordance with SSA guidelines. This position offers primarily remote work with occasional on-site responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Licensure & Certification

  • Active, unrestricted MD or DO license in the State of Delaware
  • License must be in good standing with no disciplinary actions within the past five (5) years
  • Must qualify as a psychological/psychiatric consultant per SSA Program Policy
  • Authorized to perform evaluations, render formal opinions, and sign medical determinations
  • Ability to provide proof of Delaware business licensure (or initiate application if required)

Work Location & Technical Requirements

  • Primarily remote (telework) with occasional onsite presence for paper case reviews
  • Must be based in the continental United States
  • Work conducted during standard business hours with an approved schedule
  • Proficiency with electronic systems and ability to review both digital and paper case files
  • Ability to complete and electronically sign required documentation using secure systems

Core Responsibilities

  • Evaluate psychological/psychiatric medical evidence for disability determination cases
  • Assess severity of impairments and functional limitations
  • Review and provide input on consultative examination requests
  • Serve as a signatory on required medical documentation and scripts
  • Write clear, independent medical narratives to support determinations
  • Provide guidance and training to adjudicators and staff as needed
  • Collaborate with internal teams while maintaining clinical objectivity

Performance Expectations

  • Complete case reviews within 48-hour turnaround timelines
  • Respond to emails and case-related inquiries within 48 hours of the next shift worked
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of SSA disability policies and procedures
  • Exercise sound judgment by recusing yourself from cases involving prior patients or personal relationships

  • Comfortable working independently in a structured, deadline-driven environment
