ND Capitol Tour Guide

The North Dakota Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is seeking a Capitol Tour Guide to serve as the face of the North Dakota State Capitol and create welcoming, memorable experiences for visitors.

This is more than a tour guide role, it is an opportunity to bring North Dakota's history, government, and Capitol to life for thousands of visitors each year. From schoolchildren seeing the Capitol for the first time to travelers from across the country, you will help shape how others experience one of North Dakota's most iconic public spaces.

We are looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people, telling stories, and creating meaningful experiences through conversation and education. This role is especially well suited for individuals with a background or passion in education, history, public speaking, hospitality, theater, community engagement, or lifelong learning.

You don't need to know everything on day one. We are looking for someone who is curious, eager to learn, and excited to continually discover and share new information. You will join a small, supportive team and represent not just OMB, but Team ND as a whole. Summary of Work


As a Capitol Tour Guide , you will:

• Lead engaging, informative tours for groups of all sizes, including school groups and visitors of all ages
• Share the history, purpose, and daily activity of the Capitol in a way that is clear, accurate, and engaging
• Adapt your approach to different audiences, keeping tours interesting, welcoming, and easy to follow
• Answer questions thoughtfully and confidently, and seek out information when you don't have an immediate answer
• Create a positive and memorable experience that makes visitors feel welcome and at home
• Continuously learn about the Capitol and look for ways to enhance and improve the tour experience
• Provide general information and assistance to visitors throughout the Capitol
• Respond to phone and email inquiries in a timely and professional manner
• Maintain records of tours conducted and prepare quarterly reports
• Support Facility Management operations and assist with general office duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications


We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicating clearly, and being part of a team.

You enjoy storytelling, engaging with others, and take pride in creating a positive experience for every visitor.

This role does not require a specific degree or prior tour experience. We will provide training and support to help you succeed.

This role involves standing and walking for extended periods while leading tours.

Compensation & Location

• Work Style: Bismarck, ND at the North Dakota Capitol Complex
• Hours per Week: 10-20 hours per week, as needed. Typical schedule includes Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., plus every other Saturday in the summer from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• Starting Hiring Rate: $16.00/hr.
