Position Overview A MPU Field Application Engineer will be a key member of the Customer Application Support team, providing premium technical support to NXP customers and their projects. The role drives demand creation and design‑in activity, collaborates closely with NXP business lines, and supports the sales staff with technical expertise and future roadmap insights. Key Responsibilities Deliver premium technical support in content and time to assigned customers. Drive design wins in target accounts and target technologies. Lead proof‑of‑concept, solution design, and demonstrations to secure NXP solution design‑in. Synthesise customer and competitive insights to improve product definition and roadmaps. Direct NXP design‑in campaigns for assigned customers to ensure early involvement in the customer’s technology roadmap and timely flow of information to all necessary parties within NXP and the customer. Understand and communicate how ecosystem solutions can position NXP in the best possible manner. Qualify sales opportunities in terms of customer technical requirements and establish NXP’s value proposition relative to the competition. Quantify the technical benefits derived from choosing NXP and validate the value of NXP’s products against competitors. Own the system software architect role to ensure broader technical teams understand the software value proposition for system proposals. Build relationships with sales team members, business lines, partners, and customers to support sales objectives. Analyze customer technical objectives through data‑gathering techniques, enabling the sales team to be more predictive, effective, and responsive. Assist in educating Field Sales Engineers on new technologies, product features, and related business value. Develop system‑level knowledge of target application spaces in automotive and industrial vertical markets. Essential Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of development engineering or application support of microprocessor‑based embedded systems. Field Application Engineering experience in the semiconductor industry. Experience with C and C++ and a record of developing embedded firmware. Demonstrated knowledge of typical SoC hardware interfaces (Ethernet, MIPI, SDIO, LP DDR4/5, Quad/Octal SPI, USB2.0/3.0, UART, SPI, I2C). Knowledge of ARM Cortex‑A, M and R based architectures and register programming models. Experience using real‑time OS systems: QNX, FreeRTOS, and Zephyr preferred. Knowledge in embedded Linux (kernel, user‑space, uboot) is a plus. Hands‑on knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related software drivers helpful. Knowledge of Edge AI application deployment is beneficial (CNNs, LLMs, VLMs, Agentic AI). Ability to read, understand, and review schematics and provide design recommendations. Willingness to travel up to 30% within continental U.S. Experience providing technical training to sales staff and distributors. Proven track record of quickly learning new technologies. Develop system‑level understanding of target end‑applications.
