Phlebotomist (Evergreen)

Responsibilities Responsible for efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following SOPs. Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect. In compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, perform venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process. Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Provide a positive donor experience by making adjustments as necessary. Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explain screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other pertinent information; ensure all donor questions are answered timely, accurately, and professionally. Maintain alertness to any donor reaction and assist or notify appropriate staff. Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process (machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, donor adverse events). Perform calibrations and verify maintenance, respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues. Troubleshoot equipment failures; create incident documentation and remove or replace equipment from service. Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover; alert group leader or supervisor of donor flow issues. Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing. Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs. Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper‑immune programs at the center, if applicable. Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed; follow HSE, OSHA policies and promote safety in all actions. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information. May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs. Use bilingual skills, if required by the organization. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 12 months experience in a medical or health‑care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. For centers located in CA, minimum state certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or current Registered Nurse by the State of California required.
